On the Couch

Hot coals and butterfly uncertainty,

Fluttering like snow caught in headlights.

The first time

My wife met my lover

Was one of the happiest days of my life.

It was awkward, of course.

Who to sit next to,

How much to cuddle,

What to say.

Silences stretching out like oceans,

Making us all a little seasick.

But wow.

I have never felt co complete,

A pyramid finally finished,

Full to the brim with splendor and riches.

How could they be

So generous

To leave all this at my feet?

I’m sorry, I have to go

I have to buy her some roses,

Get him pokemon cards.

I am at their ravenous mercy,

My sun and my moon.
